In May 1976, the Khmer Rouge seized the Buddhist temple Somrong Knong, turning it into a prison, after which the surrounding area was turned into a killing field where 10,008 people were put to death.

The Well of Shadows serves as a memorial for those lost, but the site also shows us the sheer brutality commonplace under the Khmer Rouge Regime.
