The bamboo sled, known locally as a Norrie, rests on a pair of axles. Power is provided by a small 2HP motor. While in operation, motor itself is slid forward and backward, altering tension on the single belt that runs around the rear axle. There are no brakes, though simply loosening the belt will allow the Norrie to come to a stop fairly quickly.

While once a relatively common mode of transportation, locals do not rely on the Norrie as much as they have in the past. At one time, it was possible to travel long distances between larger cities, though this is no longer practiced. Commercial train service on this line was discontinued in 2009.
